    Today’s Workout:

5x 50m Sled Drag( or similar)
    Rest 1:1

    Don’t forget to warm up.

Ideas for improvising a sled drag:
-rope/webbing attached to a spare tire with some weight on it
    -drag a sturdy sandbag
-drag a children’s sled with weight on it
-tie a rope to a log (timber hitch)
-tie a rope to a kettlebell or weight plate (soft surface only)

…you’re only limited by your creativity

Visual Learners, here are some videos. Form is likely to depend on what you’re pulling, so I’m giving you a few variations.

*note, despite the rumors of Louie Simmon’s dudes juicing, he’s the man.

    What is rest 1:1?

What is a good weight to use?

Where is everybody else that showed interest in the original thread?

    What is rest 1:1?

Let’s say it takes you 20 seconds to complete the first 50m, rest that much time before doing the next one.

What is a good weight to use?

It depends on your setup/surface/fitness level. It should be something you can power through for the full 50m without slowing or stopping. For what it’s worth, I’ll be doing it using a metal sled, on asphalt (low friction setup), and will use 165# most likely. Worst case scenario, lengthen or shorten the distance.

Where is everybody else that showed interest in the original thread?

    Right?

Did they all drop of? How many people are still doing this?

It is a really just big time ‘LOLZ’ with all these dudes who espouse tactical preparedness but won’t do PT….

    Big ‘WTF’ moments!

If you started and already dropped off, tell us why?

    If you never started, why?

I know I am not doing this, but I am already running a supervised functional fitness program. This is designed to give a program to guys who don’t have one and need pointers.

    I am still in. ;-)

This is good stuff and a change of pace to my typical routine. Which is probably a bigger deal than most realize.

I certainly appreciate JohnnyMac’s time on this. :good:

@johnnymac. Thanks for doing this. The info you are posting is appreciated. I’m not participating because I am already doing crossfit 4x per week and dont have time to do more. I think its great that you are trying to get people motivated to PT. It is one of the most overlooked aspects of training. Its weird that people dont get this! I also quit posting on the Motivational Fitness Log because I’m working out consistently and posting that seemed repetitive and braggardly. If anyone is interested I can resume posting the Crossfit Workouts I’m doing so others can use them if they want.

I’ll second what Joe said. I exercise 4-5 days per week, but this gives me a good QC check and accountability. I would love to have something like this every day to help mix things up, because I end up in a rut doing the same exercises.

    5:50 total time

My daughter(gymnast, solid muscle) weighs 120. I put her and a 40# sandbag on our sled and pulled that. I still had juice, so I did 5 more and then carried her on my back for a quarter mile.

    Thanks Johnny.

Johnny, can we do the MVT prereq one day? Just maybe not this weekend. We’re expecting about 2″ of rain.

Yep, I planned on squeezing it in sometime, not just not sure when yet.

~4000 pounds……..F150 SCrew truck. Once started down the driveway (pushing), then stop by pulling, repeat, again and again. For safety, I put bricks at either end to act as stops.

Not sure how well it counts but one can feel it in the legs, back, and shoulders.

It was a bit chaotic with traffic whizzing by in the dark, so I didn’t get a time, but I did this with #185. It wasn’t bad at all, and I’m considering this a “rest day”

I’m definitely going to throw some of these into my workout routine! Good stuff @johnnymac! I have a homemade sled that I made out of a 20″ truck tire and an empty 225lb molasses tub (for my cows), the tub fits into the tire perfectly. I fill the tub up with rocks/bricks etc… wrap a tow strap around it and drag it around the house, the rubber tire provides increased resistance, especially across grass!

Upside down plastic pallet (30 lbs) with heavy wood pallet (48 lbs) on top forming a platform with a 30′ training lead as a tow line.

Three German Shepherds in a tri wall (65 lbs, 94 lbs, 77 lbs).

    Total Weight 314 lbs.

    Time 9:38

Glad I stopped at only three German Shepherds. ;-)

Shouldn’t those dogs be pulling you?

I’m liking all the different ways people are coming up with to meet the concept……..

Just last week I was thinking that my workouts pretty much work all my muscles. I typically do some combination of pushups, situps, leg raises, squats, lunges, sandbag burpees, bag swings to the sides, sandbag clean & press, bentover rows, farmers carry and run.

Yesterday and today I woke up with sore muscles.

    Thanks again Johnny.

Put 225lbs on the sled yesterday pulled with 1 arm while carrying a 45lb dumbbell in the other (trying to simulate dragging a body while carrying a fire arm). This was after arm day so my forearms were burning up.

I won’t be doing every fitmass work out but I will be tacking them on as time and work outs permit.
