Platoon Leader: A Memoir of Command in Combat, written by James McDonough is a good book chronicling a soldier’s journey from West Point to an infantry platoon leader position in Vietnam.
What I like about this book is his tactical breakdown of situations, patrols and firefights. He also delves into some of the psychological aspects of his experience. There are a lot of lessons to be picked up here, as they were often operating in small teams with little support (some artillery/air) and oversight (more or less totally on his own from a COC standpoint).
I have this, it is top tier reading.
