I just finished an excellent civil war history titled, “Hood’s Texas Brigade in the Civil War” by Edward B. Williams. This is telling chronicle of this Brigade. Being a Texan, it was a special read because I am familiar with the towns and areas these men came from. It brings the history to life so to speak. Interesting tidbit of history concerning this Brigade. The 1st Texas regiment suffered the highest casualty rate by any unit North or South during a battle in the course of the war. The 1st Texas lost 82.3% during the Battle of Sharpsburg, or also called Antietam. In the bloody cornfield, out of 226 men, 186 were either killed or wounded.
