Years ago before I knew better, when I would unload my pistol I would cover the ejection port with my hand and catch the round. I did this before I learned just how damned dangerous it is.

I have seen videos and pictures of guys who did this and the results are not pretty. Usually what happens is the extractor hits the primer with enough force to set it off. You then have a mini hand grenade going off in your palm.

This is the first time I have heard of of the edge of the ejection port setting one off. Just goes to show you that Murphy is always out there and waiting.

The lesson is, don’t be lazy. Let it eject onto the ground and then pick it up. Better than having a Doc pick pieces of brass out of your hand or loosing a finger.

Even on my little G26’s they are near the back of the slide.

Good advice….still remember when my dad(who always stressed firearms safety) put a ’06 round thru the truck unloading his hunting rifle as he was focused on catching the round he was ejecting. Let the clearing process complete and then bend over and pick up the round.

I didn’t even know this was a threat. Good alert.

The only easy day was yesterday
