Is the Fiochi .223 any good?

Bought a thousand rounds, have barely gotten into it and had a dud round. Examining the cartridge after the fact it had a HEAVY primer hit but did not fire. I think rifle did it’s job but it was just a dud round. I expect a dud every case or so with Wolf, but did not expect it with higher cost ammo like this.

Being I’m not an AR guy, I wondered if I bought crap with the Fiochi and didn’t know it???

What about the IMI .223? SGAmmo has some sale on it right now.

IMI is the best Milspec ammo, IME. It’s Nato hot (too much for Max’s steel though), < 3MOA and I’ve never had a single bad round in probably over 15k.

IMI is solid. A guy at class uses the 62 grain Fiocchi and it ran fine last fall.

Good deal on that IMI at sgammo. FYI, in the past there have been a couple lots of IMI that had issues with blown primers. More the exception than the rule, but just a heads up on that.

I normally just get Wolf Gold .223, Taiwan brass loaded close to 5.56 NATO pressure but just low enough to save MVT steel. 3.5k rounds so far no issues. $280 free shipping at targetsportsusa.com.

I have seen Fiocchi run without any problems. I ran a couple of cases 6-8 years ago. No info on current manufacturing.

I prefer PMC 62 gr green tip. M855 spec. The only M855 ammo I have ever seen that consitently will shoot sub 2 MOA.

    Appleseed.

The 855 ammo is the stuff Max won’t allow on the range right? And it’s evidently hell on steel targets also.

The couple AR’s we have are more for training so we are familiar with them for FOF classes and the CQB class which both use UTM from the AR’s.

The 855 ammo being more of a defensive/SHTF type ammo correct?

Correct, for your use it is not needed and generally a higher price point.

I’ve used Fiochi without issue in the past, but not recently.

Thanks Guys! I’ll post if we have any more issues with the Fiochi. Just assumed we wouldn’t get any dud rounds with the higher priced ammo.

Ohh. I forgot you were AK guys

Yeah, the M855 is GTW (go to war) ammo for me. Nothing wrong with M193 though.

That’s not surprising with Fiochi. If you are using it for general training ammo, don’t worry about it.

For what it is worth: I run Fiochi in my 1911 because it seems to run a bit hotter than other brands I have tried.

I run the Federal HSTs for self defense and they seem to have similar recoil characteristics, I have not set up a crony myself to test.

I have never had any issue with the .45s from Fiochi

@firstsergeant: I am curious if you have seen issues with their pistol rounds as well? So far it not been my experience…

Public Info Notice: the ammo restrictions for steel are for mobile classes where use steel. Not for the VTC. Or flat range at VTC.

For training ammo it’s fine. I have seen a lot of it shot in various classes and I shot quite a bit of it when I still carried a 1911.

No specific issues, you will get a dud every now and then.

I would not use any of their stuff for carry or GTW ammo.

HST’s are good for carry ammo.
