Welcome to Week 1 of the Fitness Challenge!

In the video below the workout is announced and demonstrated.

As Many Rounds as Possible in 30 minutes w/ Pack (6/4 bricks):
    2x Farmer Carry 20m (30/20lb)
    15x Pack Swings
    2x Bear Crawl 10m

      Supporting Instructions:

    Movement Standards:

Farmer Carry: while wearing pack, implements are picked up at start line, you must cross the turnaround point and cross the finish line. If you drop the implements while carrying, return to last point (start/turnaround)

Pack Swings: the pack swing begins with the pack between your legs and finishes with the pack above the horizon. Your eyes should be able to see the horizon with your wrists/the pack above your line of sight.

Bear Crawl: while wearing pack, move on hands and feet (no knees!) out to 10m turnaround point. Ensure your body completely passes across the turnaround point and finish line, not just hands.

*Be honest with your form/reps. If you do not meet these standards, you need to “no-rep” yourself. Integrity.

    Example:
On the first pack swing, it does not break the line of sight with the horizon. Do not count it as a rep.

    Scoring
Submit your best result by commenting below with your score, age group, and a post-workout photo with you and your 10m/20m points and equipment in the background, NO LATER THAN 7/13/2017. You’re free to compete, but failure to comply removes your eligibility for earning the patch.

    Age Groups:
    i. Open: <35 years old
ii. Masters I: 36-45 years old
iii. Masters II: 46-55 years old
iv. Masters III: 56+ years old

    How to Score:

Score = Complete Rounds + reps of partial round (distance rounded down to nearest end point if finished on farmer carry or bear crawl)

    Example 1:
After thirty minutes you finish: 10 Rounds and are almost done the bear crawl.
    Score = 10 rounds + (2 farmer carry + 15 pack swings + 1 bear crawl)
    Report Score as: 10 Rounds + 18

Example 2: After thirty minutes you finish: 7 Rounds and just started the farmer carry.
    Score = 7 Rounds

Example 3: After thirty minutes you finish: 7 rounds and are just turned around on the farmer carry.
    Score = 7 Rounds + 1

    GOOD LUCK!!!!!

    Age: 33 (Open Group)
Completed 13 complete rounds, no extras. Only had about 30 seconds left after round 13, needed the rest.

    Farmer's Carry

    Pack Swings

    The aftermath

I meant to do it over the weekend, but life happened. I decided to knuckle up and do it this afternoon after work, in the 90 degree NOVA heat.

    FULL DISCLOSURE….

I have had 2 operations on my right shoulder, among other bodily things, and it has greatly limited my mobility in it. It is impossible for me to raise my arm over my head and raising it to eye level is somewhat painful.

That is relevant because when I went to do the “bear crawl” I found it impossible. As much as I hate to admit it, I was forced to crawl on my hands and knees. Realizing that is NOT to specification, if I get dropped because of it, I will certainly understand. Although I probably should have asked before I shredded my knees.

Having said all that…94 degrees…Master III…10 rounds complete, +1 fireman’s carry and 15 pack swings 27 minutes. I wussed out on the crawl, my knees were killing me.

    Y’all have a nice day.

    Attempt 2. Open Age Group.
13 rounds, 2 farmers carries, 2 pack swings.

It’s too dark to see my gear but my shredded hands from pack swings hopefully are enough evidence. That’s my sweat dripping face shining with the moon in the dark timestamp picture.

I tried stay on pace to beat @ellobo but 15 full rounds is 2 minute rounds with zero rest and hot damn that’s hard. Bravo sir.

    Time: 0530
    Temp: 78
    Humidity: 91%
    Death: Imminent

    Bring It On

    Bracket: Masters I (37)
    Rounds: 16x + 2 (Farmers Carry) = 18

A slight niggle…doing the farmer’s carry, swings, and 1x bear crawl nets 18 additional points while finishing the round gives you a whopping one additional point. Am I figuring that right?

Some of you are beasts. I did it again yesterday and got to the same point of 8 + 2 carry. I went ahead and finished 10 full sets, but it took 40 minutes.

Thanks for doing this JohnnyMac (and Max). It’s giving me a good incentive to push harder in my regular workouts. I expect to see some improvement in my performance by the end.

86F, 85% humidity, 81F dew point, 100F heat index. Heat and humidity kicked my ass today. Spent half the time recovering towards the end. Looking forward to Week 2 though. It’s good seeing everyone’s scores, gives me a better idea of what to train toward.

    Edit: weights were 14kg = 30.8lbs per.

If I understand correctly, scoring is simply stated as “number of rounds + number of partial reps” so “10 Rounds + 12” and this will be used by John to tally up a final score. As in, # of rounds and # of partial reps aren’t worth equal points.

Here are the accumulated results from Week 1!

Congrats to 5Solas for winning Week 1.

edit: Points are the rank, overall, for each week added up over the 6 weeks. As you can see, I have it sorted by age group, then by points.
