As was stated in the AAR for Texas, my forward-assist was found in pieces around the BCG. so the $64K question is – do I replace it or plug it??

I’ve never had a failure of the FA but I also rarely use it sooooooo……

I say replace it only because a plug looks weird and if you ever do need it, it will be there.

ive always thought it was a bad idea to force things into places that dont want them there…. i personally would plug it.

I have an older AR without the M4 feed ramps. The FA is a necessity. When releasing the BHO, about 25% of the time it fails to go fully into battery. A quick press of the FA and back in action.

On my newer rifle with M4 feed ramps, I have yet to experience the same malfunction. So…the FA just sits there. I’ve looked at some slick side uppers with no FA and no dust covers because they look neat with a slim profile. Still haven’t bought one.

    Replace it.

There have been a handful of times that I have used it over the years.

It’s one of those things that you don’t realize how useful it can be until you need it and don’t have it.
