Since this is Max’s first Run n Gun at MVT it was a good way to shake down your kit. I found out that I need to readjust my MVT chest rig to be able to breathe going up the hills, not Mother Fucker hill but its sister hill which was a bitch. The first part of the run was down the road then up hills then down and more up hills then we came though the parking lot up the hill to the upper square range to our first shooting station. Twenty rounds in the paper and off again same track as before then back to the lower square range to complete the shooting station five ten rounds AR mags then to ten round of pistol round into the paper. The weather was heavy mist and lite wind which good to run in but hell to keep your eye pro clears. I know if Max’s has another Run n Gun combine with a class I’ll be there. Oh if I do it again and Jon aka Blind sack is running I am going to punch him in the kneels and get a twenty minute head start. That man is fast

I enjoyed the Run ‘n Gun a lot, too.
One lesson – go lighter on the kit. After the run and before the FoF, I downsized to just a versa-rig. Battle belt is going back in the closet, I’ll just wear a handgun and mags on my pants belt. It’s not just the battlebelt weight, it’s the cumbersome effect of all that crap wrapped around the hips. I like knowing I can go the distance with all that, but I felt a lot more mobile for the rest of the weekend after ditching the BB.

The few flights of stairs this week at work, which used to be a PITA, sure seemed like nothing after the run ‘n gun!

Keeper- are you hunkered down and GTG for the storm coming your way?

If you get a chance to do the Run & Gun or the Rifleman Challenge when they come up again, just do it. Don’t worry about how you are going to look or compare to everyone else. It’s really about you and just completing the course will be well worth it.

Amen! Just do it, you’ll do better than you think and even if you don’t, you’ll be better and further ahead than if you didn’t try. For many of us suburbanites, this kind of thing is the only type of event where you can test yourself with your loadout over several miles with some shooting to do once your heartrate is up.

I noticed there was NOT a class for ponies……(shetland, if you must know ;-) )

    Which is heavier - a soldier's pack or a slave's chains? Napoleon

Back when that was written, I was more like a “pack mule”, humping about 50 lbs over the course… just for fun.

Sixteen years later, I’m older, wiser, and lighter, only carrying about 15 lbs of the stuff I actually NEED for the event.
