This is my concept for the TacGun Tacmaggedon event. I am considering this for April, perhaps even the first weekend of the CLC class (which is where CLC students show up on the Sunday PM):
Ok, here is the plan. All 3 events are standalone / optional:
Optional ruck run / spartan race type thing. May build obstables on the run n gun route. Maybe Johnnymac wants to take ownership of this one?
2Gun Event, preferably with a tactical stage or 2. So this would be a flat range 2Gun event but due to MVT we may set up stages on the tactical ranges, using pop ups and steel etc.
Team force on force tournament. Elimination competition with teams of 4. No mandatory UTM purchase, just like paintball where you buy what you need.
Social event / cookout Saturday night.
2Gun is a thing and I have been talking to Aaron about this. We may take this in and make it very much a part of TacGun. I have no time for 3Gun. I will post a link / article on 2Gun. I thibk it never really took off, but it is ideal for our purposes. There is even an armored division!
This would be a cheap and accessible event, there is no training, so it would be entry fees to each event, plus UTM costs. Like $25 entry for the 2Gun.September 11, 2017 at 8:00 am #50564September 11, 2017 at 9:25 am #50566
This sounds like a great idea for an event! I look forward to hearing more as it develops.

What about this:
A ruck run/obstacle course (a TacRun???? ) that takes place Saturday night. We could use darkness in leiu of a lot of fancy obstacles and just keep things simple with log/bucket carries, a crawl under wire or 550 cord, other things as time/resources/creativity allow.
We could have two divisions: visible light and no light. Doing so would allow guys with nightvision an excuse to use them in a psuedo-tactical environment but also allow others a chance to match their darkness comfort level. The moon phase calendar says we’ll be at 58% lume, so easily doable with just natural vision (depending on cloud cover obviously). The course can be marked with small glowsticks. Throw in some UTM blanks and it will make for a VERY unique racing experience, with a strong MVT flair.
By keeping the obstacles very simple, we can mitigate some risk. We could also require a whistle and some sort of high vis ID (PT belt, glowstick, IR, etc) for competitors.
We would need volunteers as lane walkers, judges, etc.
EDIT: running through the hills at night, negotiating obstacles, then randomly getting “shot at” will be hair raising for most people and might draw in some non-tactical adrenaline junkies.September 11, 2017 at 10:13 am #50568
Sounds like a good time.

sounds like fun.
There never seems to be enough time to do it right, but there is always enough time to do it twice.

A pdf flyer would be a great way to promote this to crossfitters, 3 gunners, 2 gunners, go ruckers and others. Once we get farther along I can help with designing the flyer if needed.
Because TacGun. Thats why!September 11, 2017 at 11:27 am #50573ctpelokParticipant
Count me in, great idea.

Sounds great! Two-gun makes way more sense. I mean, who’s gonna carry a shotgun around? Never mind…preppers…

So the specific 2Gun stages will be under development and will likely involve an element of PT / stress event.
As to the TacRun, I really like the night idea from JM. Now, there are a couple of issue: April it is sunset around 1945. That knocks out a Saturday social event (cookout), which is an important part. So the solution may be to offer the TacRun at around 2000hrs on the Friday night?
As for a night TacRun, I really like the theme escape and evasion. So it is run with no gear, but tactical (long pant) clothing. We mark the route with light sticks. We have events on it, such as flares being fired, maybe a ‘low wire entanglement’ with blank fire. Whatever fun we can think of. I really want dogs. I actually have 2 hounds, but not sure how to make them bay on command! I would be happy to chase the runners around at the back with my hounds!September 11, 2017 at 11:57 am #50577
Also, we have the route we used for the run n gun, not the same as the 2 mile route. It goes over some fun terrain on both sides of the valley and includes the trail we cut down the hill above the schoolhouse, which is now where the 1000 yard point is.September 11, 2017 at 12:26 pm #50578JohnnyMacParticipant

What if there were checkpoints, that you could be sent back to if you’re “caught”? It would definitely provide some incentiveSeptember 11, 2017 at 12:45 pm #50579wildbillParticipant
Maybe Joe could bring a couple of his GSD to provide a little more motivation
This is starting to sound like a lot of fun, definitely need to be really promoted with flyers etc.

Well, I have visions of the TacRun night startline, vehicle headlights and hunter force in ski masks with barking dogs on leashes. GSD are good, I have the tracker redbones!
Don’t get me started, if you don’t run fast enough, you may find yourself resisting interrogation!September 11, 2017 at 1:27 pm #50582BrushpopperParticipant
Lol, I like the idea of escape and evasion, especially with hounds trailing you! Sounds like a great time!!

I think events like this, with a gaming aspect and no prerequisite training required, will attract competitive people, e.g., Crossfitters, Tough Mudders, Spartans. Once these people are exposed to TacGun through Tacmaggedon (I like that name) and the TacGun Challenge, I expect a good proportion of them will be hooked. Gonna send info directly to the Crossfit box.

Debating whether to even schedule this. We could create an amazing event. Lots of effort, make it great. But where is the interest?
FoF November is not over subscribed, and that is a TacGun event. See my comments on recent posts in latest activity for my thoughts. Nov FOF is my indicator, my weather vane right now.
It seems that the majority who are aware of MVT are not motivated by physicaly and tactically challeneging events. Of course I have solid alumni exceptions.
So why should we bother? Why go to the effort?September 27, 2017 at 9:15 am #51185
If anybody wants flyers to promote training in their area, let me know and I can email them. I have the flyers in a word format and they are easily edited (copy and paste) for whatever classes/ training events you want to help promote. I have had some good conversations about the classes in texas with people from my Cross fit gym. I think this is a good way to start finding prospects for your CUTT.

Darkrivers, check spelling on flyer. “tactical range potion” tastes good but seems it needs to be “tactical range portion”. In the first 6 package bottom left. Will put out flyers in my area of Texas.

I’ll get that changed. I copied and pasted from the site. Good eye, your the only one that caught that.
