Perhaps you could take a run from the upcoming course and run a sort of analysis/debrief on how the student teams performed?

Having all three, I can say that I like the red dot (Aimpoint PRO) the least and the ACOG the most (it’s a green chevron so YMMV). I can also say, I feel comfortable with using any of them.
The red dot, while easy to slave to dialed in irons, doesn’t assist with target PID enough for me to feel comfortable using it for anything more than…[Read more]

So on the subject of helmets and NVG rigs, what does this forum consider to be critical for a minimalist helmet set up? What I’ve gathered is a cover to support a counter weight, the mount for the NV device itself, a good suspension system for the helmet itself, and the ability to tie off the NVD to the helmet or mount itself. Am I missing anything?

I saw on Highcom armor that their baseline ACH goes for $379; other cuts are available, too, if that’s a legit vendor.

Old thread, but I love my TA31 with a green chevron reticle. If I had the change, I’d switch the optics on all of my ARs to ACOGs. However, I have a Leupold 1.25-4x Firedot which is equally friendly to my eyes at mixed distances.

I would think most models would have packages that come with pre-existing furniture, although I have seen a trend where this sort of setup gives you the opportunity to get the hardware you prefer, without paying for hardware you don’t. Out of curiosity, where are you looking?

I didn’t think it was that large, of course, I could have the model wrong. I have two Kelty packs; one I know for sure is a Scheels Edition 65L pack, and the smaller one looks about half the size of the 65L pack.

Follow up question: what are the differentiates simulated combat conditions from something range bays or a multi-gun competition? What environmental factors make these different, in your experience?
My questions are for my education on the subject, as I’m trying to understand the comparative advantages/disadvantages of what I can determine by…[Read more]

This is a great question; I don’t have an answer, and I was actually thinking of asking this forum what a good reliability test would be for a prospective class rifle.
Here’s what I’ve done in the past for testing:
Set zero (100 or 200yd depending on platform and optic); measure MOA accuracy while performing
Single round lock back…[Read more] -

This I totally get; my rebuttal is what if I’m trying to discern if the weapon is reliable enough to take it this far? What test can I perform on any weapon that will help me gain confidence in it working reliably for that purpose, beyond the oft-cited “factory-built?”

What do I do? I see what is recommended for the things I know about. For example, I have two .45ACP pistols that have recommended 500rd break ins; both of which I’m about halfway through.
As for what makes me trust a weapon, the answer is I’m looking for that, too. I have a 20-inch AR where I ordered the parts and had a professional gunsmith…[Read more]
